Dr Wilson Wang is a highly-regarded Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with many years of specialist clinical practice and experience in the public healthcare sector in Singapore. He is particularly well-known for his expertise in joint replacement and joint reconstruction surgery, such as primary, revision and complex hip and knee arthroplasty, ligament reconstruction and meniscal repair procedures, and arthroscopy for cartilage repair and restoration. In addition, he also takes special interest in the holistic care of joint pain, mobility problems and functional needs, as well as the prevention of joint injury and maintenance of musculoskeletal health in bone, cartilage, ligaments, muscles and tendons.

Dr Wang qualified as a medical doctor from University College London, University of London where he was awarded the MBBS(London) degree with Distinctions in Pathology and Medicine. His notable achievements during his medical degree course include UCL Medical School subject prizes in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, General Pathology, Pharmacology and for Best Aggregate Performance; the Croxon Memorial Scholarship for Clinical Course; the Rosenheim Elective Period Award; and the Douglas Cree Prize in Medicine for the MBBS Final Examinations.

Subsequently Dr Wang continued with his medical and surgical training in both Singapore and in the UK at well-known institutions such as St Mary’s Hospital (now part of Imperial College London), and Great Ormond Street Hospital, and he obtained his Surgical Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He was awarded the Girdlestone Memorial Scholarship by the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for his doctoral research relating to complications of joint implants, leading to his Doctorate degree (D.Phil. in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology) conferred by the University of Oxford in 2001. His work overturned aspects of conventional wisdom in its time in the field of bone cell pathobiology, and has been quoted in a reference textbook published by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Soon after, Dr Wang completed his Specialist Orthopaedic Training in Singapore, and he further did a Clinical Fellowship in Joint Replacement at the renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, becoming amongst the first Singaporean surgeons to train in partial knee replacement. Dr Wang was also the first orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore to perform robotic-guided knee surgery, with his excellent outcomes reported at the Singapore Orthopaedic Association Annual Scientific Meeting in 2012. His prize-winning research work has resulted in over 90 journal publications, 7 book chapters and over 150 conference papers.

Dr Wang continues to contribute to community health initiatives, and is currently a member of “Our Accessible City Community Partnership Group in HDB Heartlands” Workgroup, led by Housing Development Board (HDB) and Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (MDAS), under direction of Ministry of Social and Family Development, looking at accessibility in community settings for persons with mobility impairments.
